Decorative and useful amulet made of Slate Stone round shape that depicts iconic figures of the Inca Culture that were considered as divine beings, the Sun and the Moon. The Sun and the Moon represents the Andean Dualism where male and female is complementing one to another.
For the Andean people the universe is made up of pairs of complementary and opposite elements; which is comparable to that which links an object to its image in a mirror. Examples are: right hand/left hand; husband/wife; male/female; life/death; sun/moon; north/south.
Entirely hand carved. Depicts an Inca Calendar which is the time measurement system used by the Incas in Cusco, Peru. It was determined from the observation of the Sun and the Moon. The 360-day year was divided into 12 moons of 30 days each. The mythical-religious organization determined the succession to the calendar through the 12 moons. Corresponding to vacations and daily activities. In Andean cosmology, the sun and the moon represent also the family, this amulet can be placed on an altar for the union and prosperity of the family.
